Celebrating Costa Rica’s heritage: Anexión del Partido de Nicoya

Every year on July 25th, Costa Rica celebrates one of its most important national holidays: La Anexión del Partido de Nicoya. This historic day marks the peaceful decision made in 1824 for the Nicoya region to become part of Costa Rica, a moment that helped shape the country’s identity and continues to be celebrated with pride throughout Guanacaste.

Traditions that make this region so unique

At The Gilded Iguana, we love for our guests to experience the traditions that make this region so unique. This year’s celebration was a beautiful reminder of the culture and sense of community that define Nosara.

Our guests enjoyed a traditional Costa Rican brunch with live marimba music. One of the highlights of the morning was a beautiful performance by the talented children of Escuela Santa Teresita, who brought Guanacaste’s traditions to life through folkloric dances in traditional costumes.

Guancaste is Special

Freshly handmade tortillas cooked over a wood-fired stove was a must to try! And the opportunity to enjoy a playful traditional bull activity, adding to the festive atmosphere for all ages.

Events like these provide a meaningful connection to the people, history, and traditions that make Guanacaste such a special place to visit.

We are grateful to everyone who joined us in celebrating this special day, and especially to the students, musicians, and local community who helped make the event memorable.
