On July 25th, The Gilded Iguana came alive with the spirit of Guanacaste as we celebrated La Anexión del Partido de Nicoya, a day full of tradition and community. This was the 201st year Costa Rica has celebrated the Anexión de Nicoya!
Our guests, staff, and local friends gathered for a morning filled with traditional Costa Rican flavors, marimba music, and cultural dances that brought the heart of Guanacaste right to our hotel. The air was filled with the smell of wood fire-cooked chicharrones, nd homemade tortillas.
One of the most heartwarming highlights of the day was the performance by a group of local children from the nearby town of Santa Teresita, who showcased folkloric dances in full traditional dress. Our staff and guests joined in on a playful “toro” barrel game, channeling the spirit of a traditional Guanacaste rodeo in a fun way.
This July 25th celebration was a reminder of why we love being part of this Nosara community. We’re proud to share these special traditions with our guests, surrounded by music, food, and culture.
