Nathaniel Curran, doing what he does best.

1. Can you tell us about your background with surfing?

I started surfing when I was 5 years old. I remember riding my first long wave at Rincon when I was like 7-8 years old, and I was hooked. After that I just followed in my brother’s footsteps as they were both professional surfers. Started traveling the world and competing as a young teenager. I ended up qualifying for the world tour in 2008 along with winning the US Open of Surfing and the Lacanau Pro in France. After that I ended up taking the job at Channel Islands Surfboards as the global team manager and helped the top athletes in the world get dialed in on their equipment.

2. How do you want this surf camp to set apart from others?

Not only do I want to help people surf better, I want them to learn about surfboards and what is best for their surfing. Riding the right equipment is so important to being able to achieve your goals in surfing.

3. What type of surfers should this camp tailor to?

I would say the intermediate to advanced surfer.

4. Why in Costa Rica?

Warm water, fun waves, good food, and an awesome place to stay with an amazing surf club and amenities.

5. Can you describe a typical day during a Channel Islands surf camp?

Start off with a good breakfast followed by some stretching. Wave check to find out the best location to surf. Going over some strategies about positioning and what each surfer needs help with. Videoing each surf so we can do some surf analyzing . Later we would have lunch and relax. We would end the day with an evening session followed up by more breakdowns and technical analysis of each surfer with some drinks and how we can help improve each surfer.

6. What skills & knowledge do you want participants to leave with?

I want people to have better wave knowledge and learn how to position themselves better. I think it’s important that the surfers learn about their equipment to better improve their surfing, along with having a great time!

7. Anything else you want to add on these camps?

Can’t wait to see everyone!

Do you want to get amongst the action? You can read up on all the surf camp details here and get in touch with our team to reserve your spot. See you on the waves!
