Dawn to Dusk Takes On Costa Rica

Playa Guiones might be famous for attracting international surfers, but the ocean isn’t the only part of our town that has the whole world talking. Mountain biking adventurers have been coming to Nosara for years, ready and eager to take on the beautiful mountain trails that take riders on a journey through the jungle.

We recently welcomed MTB extraordinaire and founder of Dawn to Dusk Justin Holle, who has established a thriving adventure company that takes people through the world’s best trails. We have partnered with Dawn to Dusk to host their upcoming Nosara tour that includes incredible daily rides, coaching, merchandise and accommodation packages.

“Life is too easy.  We wake, eat, interact, feel, and then sleep.  For most of us, the importance of each may change due to family, work, or personal lives but the challenge to exist in this world is relatively easy. To truly be challenged, to be forced into an all-encompassing experience takes another input. For me, that was the bicycle.

I’ve traveled the world looking for the most challenging, awe-inspiring MTB events I can find.  Since 2013 I’ve competed in more than 100 bike races.  I’ve raced short distances and long.  24-hr events, 12-hr events, 100+ mile MTB races, and multi-day stage races.  I’ve seen more than a dozen countries and met countless finish lines that left me saying, “That’s the hardest race I’ve ever done.”  Until the next one…

Learning what this search for struggle has done to positively impact me as an individual, as a husband, a friend, and more drove me to sharing these experiences.  Delivering MTB wonder as single-day adventures, multi-day outings, and long-term coaching allows me to enjoy the wide-eyed wonder riders experience when they too embrace life, with a little sweat.

Born and raised in Iowa, matured in Colorado, and now adventuring wherever I can.  Right now it’s Nosara, Costa Rica and I couldn’t be more excited.”

Why Costa Rica?

My first international MTB event was La Ruta de los Conquistadores in 2018.  Travelling coast-to-coast in the “Hardest MTB Race in the World” opened my soul to a bike experience beyond my wildest dreams.  Children poured out of schools to cheer us as we sped by.  Farmers stopped their arduous duties to smile, wave, and holler encouragement.  The excited spectators gave me spirited pushes from behind as I clawed up 25% grades.  The country opened its arms and embraced me as its own.  I’ll never forget the kindness bestowed on me by the Ticos.

I’ve now done La Ruta 4 times.  I’ve bikepacked the Nicoya peninsula.  I’ve spent countless nights beachside, jungleside, mountainside.  In villas, on haciendas, and yes, in hotels in San Jose.  Everytime I left Costa Rica my heart grew in compassion and joy.  When the opportunity with the Gilded popped up I didn’t hesitate.  The adventures I’ve lived, shared, and guided on the MTB coupled with everything the Tico culture celebrates sets the scene for unforgettable experiences.  Why Costa Rica?  The people, location, weather, environment, wildlife, coffee, chocolate, opportunity, adventure…. do you need me to go on?
